Shaw 32nd in SBX

Ski & Snowboard Australia snowboarder Johanna Shaw has finished in 32nd place in the World Cup snowboard cross in Bad Gastein, Austria. Shaw recorded a time of 1:05.33 in the qualification run, 3.24 seconds outside a place in the 16-woman final rounds

The event was won by 18-year-old phenomenon Lyndsey Jacobellis of the United States, competing in her first World Cup SBX event. Dominique Maltais of Canada and Maria Danielsson of Sweden took the minor medals.

Jacobellis has made an amazing debut in the sport. She won the world junior SBX title in 2002, then collected the junior halfpipe title in 2003. In September she rode in her first World Cup halfpipe event in Valle Nevado, taking the silver medal.

With just two SBX events contested she shares top spot on the World Cup standings with French legend Karine Ruby, the winner of the opening event.
Ruby, the defending World Cup champion, did not finish her qualification run.
Canadian Tom Velisek won the men's event from French duo Xavier Delerue and Sylvian Duclos. It was Velisek's first World Cup victory.
