Damon Hayler sits in 12th place on the World Cup snowboard cross
standings with one event left in what has been a truncated
season.
Hayler finished in 12th place in the second of two events in
Lake Placid, New York, after a 15th in the opening event of the
weekend.
His current ranking is the best of his career, after finishing
last season in 27th place on the World Cup table.
Hayler qualified in 28th place in the opening event in the
former Olympic venue, but then fought his way through the
head-to-head round of 32 to make the quarter finals before going
out for an eventual placing of 14th.
In the second event, he qualified 17th, then again made it
through to the quarterfinals, improving to 12th place overall.
With one event to go, In the Canadian resort of Stoneham next
weekend, the Sydney rider is assured of the best end of season
ranking of his career.
Ski and Snowboard Australia rider Alex Pullin also made it into
the finals in both Lake Placid events, finishing in 27th place
on the opening day and repeating that result in his second foray
into the Lake Placid course.
Pullin's SSA team-mate Taan Robrahn was near the rear of the
field in 57th place in the opening event and, like his
team-mate, repeated the same placing in the second event.
Canadian Drew Neilson took both gold medals, making it a clean
sweep of the season's three events.
In the women's events, Stephanie Hickey finished in 25th place
and then 28th..
American Lindsey Jacobellis, the reigning world champion, took
the gold in both events.
