Promising young SAL/NSWIS moguls skier Davina Williams made
her World Cup debut at the end of last week, finishing 24th
in Ruka, Finland.
Most of the OWI team did not attend the Scandinavian event,
for budget reasons. The National selectors took advantage of
the fact that Davina was training at the resort to provide
her with experience at the top level.
After a solid top part of the course, the 17 year-old
Perisher Valley skier was undone by crashing on the bottom
air, relegating her to the very rear of the field.
In the men’s event, Australia’s sole male skier, OWI full
scholarship athlete Adrian Costa, finished in 20th place.
Three skiers in the joint SAL/New South Wales Institute of
Sport mogul program who are training in Ruka under coach
Peter Topalovic - Mark Babbage, Nicholas Fisher and Andrew
Sirianni - were forerunners for the event.
