Jacqui Cooper is out to become the first woman to make five Australian Olympic teams following her decision to extend a remarkable career to Vancouver 2010.

Cooper named Snowsports Athlete of the Year
Australian athletes have just completed one of the most successful International seasons in our winter sport history.

Jacqui Cooper has been named the Snowsports Athlete of the Year by Ski and Snowboard Australia, capping off a superb year for the aerial skiing veteran.

Cooper edged out two other strong contenders - World Cup mogul skiing titleholder Dale Begg-Smith and snowboard halfpipe pro circuit champion Torah Bright - to collect the third award of her career.

The 34-year-old Mt Buller skier won five events and an additional bronze medal on the way to her fifth World Cup aerial skiing title.

She ended the season with 24 World Cup victories, seven ahead of the next most prolific winner in the history of the sport.

No other aerial skier - man or woman - has won five titles, and only one other freestyler, American moguls champion Donna Weinbrecht, has achieved the extraordinary feat.

Bright gained some compensation by winning the Snowboard Athlete of the Year award, while Begg-Smith was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement award.

Begg-Smith won the World Cup mogul skiing title for the third consecutive season, collecting three gold and two silver medals along the way.

Bright also had a superb year on the Global Open pro tour, winning the Nippon Open, the New Zealand Open and the World Superpipe Championships on the way to her second consecutive overall series title.

Begg-Smith's coach Steve Desovich was named the Snowsports Coach of the Year.

The Junior Snowsport Athlete award went to rising snowboard halfpipe rider Nate Johnstone.
