Olympic Gold medallists, Alisa Camplin and Steve Bradbury
are among the contenders for "The Don" award, to be
announced at the Sport Australia Hall of Fame 2002 Annual
Dinner and Induction Ceremony on Thursday.
The prestigious award, to honour a current Australian
athlete who through his or her example in sport has most
inspired the nation, was first awarded in 1998. The
recipients since that time have been Mark Taylor, Heather
Turland, Ian Thorpe, Catherine Freeman and Patrick Rafter.
As well as "The Don" award, a new group of Australian
athletes will be inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of
Fame.
It is the first time that winter sports have been
represented at the final stages of this award
