Well the Winter X Games are over for another year!
Qualifying day was a strange day. It had snowed over night so that course was very slow but seem to get faster as each skier when down. The way it works at X Games is you have to qualify in the top 8 in your first run, otherwise its back up for a second chance to qualify in the top 12 (they do 2 heats of 6). I think I ended up about 11th in my first qualifying run so I was back up to try again. I came down in 1st position out of the remaining girls which ranked me 9th even though I had the fastest time of the day by 3 seconds!
The course was very dangerous on race day. We had 7 people taken to hospital that are all out for the season and those 7 people are some of the best skiers on the circuit. Among them was Karin Huttary of Austria who has broken her hip, torn her ACL and also broken one of her vertebras that she broke last season. Lars Lewin of Sweden who was knocked out cold for about 5 minutes so has a bad concussion and a torn ACL. Enak Gavaggioh of France has internal bleeding so tests are being done to find out what is wrong. He also has bone bruising to his hip. There was also another broken hip in the men, a broken wrist, another knee and another concussion...
So as you could imagine, everyone was pretty nervous!! I was in the same heat as Ophelie David. I was out behind her so played it safe and just sat behind her! Back up for the finals, I didnt have a great start and over one of the first rollers, got caught up with Hedda from Norway, lost my balance and fell!! No injuries except for a fat lip! I’ve attached the link below so that you can watch the finals for yourself
