Aerial Skiing: Alisa Wins Agian In Aussie Quinella

Date: 11/02/03
Alisa Camplin has followed up her world championship triumph by winning a World Cup event in Steamboat, Colorado, in the second quinella of the season with Olympic Winter Institute team-mate Lydia Ierodiaconou.

With two events to come in Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic, at the end of the month, the two OWI skiers now share the lead in the World Cup title race on 456 points, along with Chinese skier Nina Li.

Veronika Bauer of Canada is in fourth place on 444, but has the same number of wins for the season as Alisa. Liz Gardner is also in the world top ten at number eight.

Alisa showed no signs of a let down after her world title win, posting another 100 plus points score in the first round to qualify for the 12-woman final in second place behind her Chinese rival Li.

Lydia was in third place, with Liz in tenth.

In the final, Alisa maintained her excellent form, topping 100 points again with her second triple twisting double somersault, but Li faltered, touching down with her hand on landing to fall back to fourth place.

Alisa took the win, her third for the season, with 200.75 points, the fifth highest score of all time, with Ierodiaconou on 191.70 points in second place and Bauer in third.

Liz finished in eighth place on 166.09.

“All three women jumped really well today,” said OWI Coach Todd Ossian.

“It’s not easy coming up again after the excitement of the world championship, but Alisa was really focused, was feeling OK physically, and just jumped great.”

“It’s been a long season, and with five events in the past five weeks they’re pretty tired, especially Lydia and Liz who haven’t had as much experience.”

“We’ve got 12 days off now before we go back into training, and they really deserve the break.”
