Governance Review Update

To SSA Stakeholders,

RE: Addendum to the Costello Review of SSA.

Please find below, a link to an Addendum to the Costello Review of SSA. In broad terms, it does not impact materially on the substantive recommendations of the original review, in particular, the recommendation of a unitary structure for our sport. It does, however, make additional recommendations targeted at understandable concern from SSO’s that the sport related activities and programmes that they run will disappear under a unitary model, particularly where the initial Review recommendations implied a winding up of SSO’s. This parallels the issue identified by the Board as requiring sympathetic management through the establishment of an agreed operational plan.

The delay in the release of the Addendum follows communications with the ASC. It was respectfully recommended that ASC clarify aspects of the Addendum, particularly in relation to the structure and conduct of the Planning Forum, prior to its release to the broader community.

The ASC has made the following important clarifications regarding the Forum.

The Forum will be a Planning Forum, rather than a “Strategic” Planning Forum. The ASC has confirmed that it does not want the Forum being used to reopen issues. Rather, it should be restricted to addressing the types of practical operational issues affecting relationships between the NSO and State/Territory bodies.

Brent Espeland will be present at the forum and to indicate to those present that the Commission expects that the forum will deal only with operational matters.

Kate Costello will facilitate the Forum

A date and protocol for the Forum will be determined promptly.
