Welcome to the 65th edition of the Ski & Snowboard Australia
E-News.
With large snowfalls being reported around Australia’s resorts over
the past few days it is hard to believe that the season opening is
still 4 weeks away. This is good news for our National, Development
and Junior Team athletes who will be able to return to their on
snow training as soon as the season opens. Many athletes have taken
an extended break after the very successful Winter Olympic Games in
Torino, Italy.
As always we welcome your contributions to the website and E-News,
please submit your articles to
info@skiandsnowboard.org.au
This edition of the E-News reports on the Club Insurance, Autumn
Discipline Conference, Snowboard Forum, SSA Membership and
Discipline registration as well updates on all the latest sport
news.

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
SSA is delighted to offer Public Liability Insurance for 2006/2007,
and confirm that the relevant premiums remain the same as the
previous insurance period.
It is vital that all clubs and associations that require Public
Liability cover consider supporting this initiative. The strength of
our position is the number of clubs and associations represented
under the one policy and the capacity for the sport to generate a
reasonable premium pool.

SKI & SNOWBOARD AWARDS
As was announced in the previous e-news, the 2006 Ski & Snowboard
Awards were postponed due to a significant number of Olympic and
National Team athletes being unable to attend.
Significant efforts have been made to secure a suitable date prior
to the start of the snow season that would provide the appropriate
forum to collectively recognise our athletes achievements.
Unfortunately there appears to be no suitable dates prior to the
winter for SSA to hold this annual event.
The judging panel will meet shortly to finalise their deliberations
and award the various categories.
It is the intention of SSA that the winners of these awards be
recognised in an appropriate manner, and that we utilise various
industry gatherings such as National Championships, Institute
induction ceremonies, Interschools etc throughout the winter to
present the trophies to our deserving winners.
The tentative date for the 2007 Ski & Snowboard Awards will be April
28th 2007. Please mark this date in your diary to ensure your
availability. |

FREESTYLE
Water Jump Training
In late April a training camp was organised for Regional Club
athletes from NSW and Victoria at the Ski & Snowboard Australia
Water Jump Park in Lilydale. The camp which ran for 5 days saw
twenty athletes taking advantage of the SSA Water Jump Park under
the guidance of the NSW Institute of Sport Mogul Coach Peter Topalovic and Gold Medal National Mogul Team Coach Steve Desovich.
On average each athlete was able to complete 40 jumps per day.
The athletes were also able to train side by side with members of
the National Development Mogul Team who also made the trip to
Lilydale for some pre-season aerial training.

SNOWBOARD
Snowboard Forum Outcomes
Prior to the Snowboard Committee meeting a special forum was held
allowing athletes, parents and other interested parties the chance
to hold discussions with members of the committee and address any
issues within the snowboard community.
One of the major announcements was the introduction of a Snowboard
Committee Working Group which will work with the PGS and SBX
disciplines and help provide direction. funding, and develop
additional events which will help complete the athlete pathway. SSA
seeks expressions of interest from those individuals who feel as
though they can make a positive contribution to this working group.
Final make up of the working group will be announced shortly. If you
are interested in joining the working group please send an email
with the subject line ‘Working Group’ to
info@skiandsnowboard.org.au .
Submissions are due before the close of business Friday May 19, 2006.
The appointments for the Working Group will be the decision of the
Snowboard Committee.
