SKI AND SNOWBOARD AUSTRALIA LIMITED

CONSTITUTIONAL  REVIEW SURVEY

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is sponsoring, with the agreement of Ski and Snowboard Australia Limited (SSA), an independent review of the governance of SSA as the National Sporting Organisation for snowsports in Australia.

For the purpose of this review, governance is taken to mean the legal, constitutional, procedural, practice and behavioural processes by which the governing body translates the wishes of members into effective organizational performance through:

Assessing risk;
Setting strategic direction and priorities;
Communicating and interacting with stakeholders, especially members; and
Monitoring and evaluating organizational achievements.

The scope of the review will examine how SSA is currently governed and, to the extent there are any deficiencies, how it ought to be governed in accordance with best practice principles and practices, in order to perform its function as the nationally and internationally recognized national sporting organization for skiing and snowboarding in Australia.

The terms of reference for the review are:

1. Identify and report on the expectations of key stakeholders for SSA and for skiing and snowboarding in Australia;
2. Specify and report on best practice governance principles and practices to be used in assessing SSA’s governance;
3. Examine and report on the roles and responsibilities of SSA in relation to the sport as a whole;
4. In relation to (1) to (3) above, examine and report on the appropriateness of SSA’s and the sport’s:
(a) legal and constitutional structure, alignments, procedures and practices;
(b) organizational structure and alignments at national and sub-national levels;
(c) communications and interactions with key stakeholders;
5. Recommend improvements to remedy any deficiencies in SSA’s governance and in the way the sport is governed in Australia.

An important part of the review is to obtain feedback from key stakeholders interested in snowsports regarding how the sport is governed and the role of SSA in this. This questionnaire is intended to provide one of the main data collections to inform the review’s findings.

The questionnaire is in three parts:

Part A seeks information on the respondent.
Part B is a qualitative survey of your views in relation to the things you value most about the way snowsports are delivered and the things you would most like to see changed in the way snowsports are delivered.
Part C is a more structured, mainly quantitative, survey of your views on SSA’s constitution, structure, communications and strategic management.

It would be very helpful to obtain your responses to these matters. If you do not wish to complete all parts of the questionnaire, please complete the parts you are able to and return the questionnaire to: skigovernancesurvey@ausport.gov.au. If you do not have access to email, please send the completed questionnaire to:
