SSA Discipline Committee Membership -
Expressions of Interest Sought
The new Board of SSA recognises its ultimate accountability for
competitive snowsports outcomes at all levels of the athlete
pathway.
To this end, and as one of its major initiatives, the Board has
resolved to continue to use a Discipline Advisory Committee
structure to provide expertise and input on the development and
operation of each of the sport's four disciplines.
Accordingly, SSA now seeks Expressions of Interest (EOI) from
suitable individuals willing to be appointed to any one of the
four Discipline Committees, each of which will also be
re-established and reinvigorated under new By-laws.
It should be noted that a high level of overlap between the
existing committees and new committees is anticipated.
By and large, the performance of the existing SSA Discipline
Committees has been remarkable, evidenced principally by the
sport results achieved in recent years. However, the governance
structures, memberships and accountability of each have evolved
sporadically and now require a "freshening up". In particular,
the history of the committees pre-dates important developments
such as the formation of the various state sports institutes and
the Olympic Winter Institute and also the increased role of SSA
management in the delivery of sport programmes.
In simple terms, the
Board is seeking to:
- increase its level
of responsibility for
Discipline Committee
performance;
- reduce the
operational complexity
of the Committees; and
- increase the
communication lines from
,and accountability of,
the Committees.
Details of the proposed
By-law changes are set out
in the attached position
paper. These include:
- Roles of the four
SSA Discipline
Committees;
- Committee membership
indicative criteria;
- Committee membership
composition and
selection procedures;
- Meeting procedures;
and
- Reporting
requirements to SSA
Board.
Interested individuals
should forward their EOI on
the taking into account the
attached Structural
Overview paper, nominating
their preferred Discipline
Committee and detailing
their experience and
suitability.
