Arrangements for the Conduct of Children's Races in Australia 2007 |
|
|
- Format of Races - All Children’s events, State and National, will be conducted on the basis of each run being a race. Instead of a two-run race in each discipline over a weekend, with previously with a two-run GS and a two-run SL for each gender, the format will be 2 GS races and 2 SL races for each gender. In Victoria, where the format is all GS races conducted in the first heat and all SL races conducted in the second heat, there will be 4 GS races for each gender in the first heat and 4 SL races in the second heat. The order of all races is to be Child 1 Ladies, Child 2 Ladies, Child 1 Men, Child 2 Men.
- SSA Points - SSA points will be calculated for all SSA events, and published for all categories for the sake of transparency, as SSA points are used for ranking purposes. Child 2 competitors will not be credited with SSA points from competing in Juniors events
- Start Draw for State Heats - All State Heats are to use a random draw to allocate start positions for the first race, including all entrants, club members and independents, with the start list for the second race being a reverse of the entire field in each category. Only Child 1 and Child 2 entrants will be permitted to start. There are no exemptions which allow Child 0 entrants to start any Children’s SSA event in Australia.
- Start Draw for National Finals - The National Children’s Final event is to use SSA points to determine start positions. The top 10 be the seed for the first race to be randomly drawn with these top 10 reversed for the second race. The SSA points list is to be published after the State heats have been run.
- Maximum field size - The top 15 place getters from each category in both the State title series qualify for the National Championships to give an initial field size of 120, with extra entrants based on ties and injury status plus international competitor entries. The total field size is to be determined by the applicable ROC up to a maximum of 140. Race entries should close on the Friday before the Friday of the event weekend.
- Determination of the Australian Children's Championship - The Australian Children’s Champion will be the competitor with the greatest number of World Cup type points awarded on results in each race in the National Finals event on the basis of 25 points for 1st place, 20 points for 2nd place, 15 points for 3rd place, 12 points for 4th place, 11 points for 5th place, then decreasing by 1 point for all places from 6th down to 1 point for 15th place. All four races will count. There will be an award for the overall Australian Champion, one male and one female. There will also be separate discipline awards, male and female, both Child 1 and Child 2. Placings in the individual races making up the National Championships be recognised by the awarding of medals as distinct from trophies for the discipline and overall awards. The ROC is to supply the medals and trophies
- Qualification to enter the National Finals - Only competitors who have competed in a minimum of one event in their respective State Heats will be eligible to enter the National Finals. Extenuating circumstances like ill-health preventing entry into State Heats will be considered by the NAC on a case by case basis.
- International Competitors - A separate SSA registration category is created for Internationals, with evidence of repatriation and medical insurance required. This registration would be necessary for Internationals to be included in the National Championships start list. The Internationals may satisfy a primary qualification by competing in a State event with a top 10 finish in one race in a State title event. International competitors are classified as independents, except where they have joined an Australian Race Club. A secondary qualification can be by application to the ROC for Internationals who cannot compete in the State Heats. Internationals should be awarded a medal for an individual race placing but not be included in the overall Championship points and awards.
