Just a quick update to let you know of my results from the World Cup Downhill here in Chamonix France.
I've had my second best ever World Cup result and my second top 30 finish of the season. I came into 29th place 2.02 seconds off the winner, a good friend of mine Marco Sullivan of the USA. I was very happy with the result considering i made a pretty big jump starting from the close to the back of the pack at number 58. It's not a course that i would say is totally suited to my style as there is a lot of flat tucking sections for most of the bottom 2/3rds of the course. In the training runs i was skiing well again in the technical sections but losing most of my time in the flatter sections of the course. I managed to sort things out on race day through the flats but still made a few minor mistakes which can make a big difference on a course like this. Any speed you lose can never be made back up. As usual the field was jam packed in there, top 10 was 1 second off the winner and the next 20 people to me at 29th were jammed into 1 second, needless to say those small mistakes can mean a hell of a lot at the finish line! I was really happy with the final result, it's encouraging to see how close it is to the top and it was good to beat a few of the big names of the sport along the way.
Off to Val'd'Isere for the next World Cup next weekend so will keep in touch.
Cheers
Bud
