Jono Brauer finished fourth in a FIS slalom race in
Chamonix overnight, equalling the time recorded by
current world number three slalom skier, Giorgio Rocca
of Italy.
The race was run in knock out format, with the field of
30 whittled down over a qualifying run and three further
runs, the winner determined by the combined total of the
last two runs.
Brauer held his place in the top of the field throughout
the event, recorded 1:01.74 for his two final runs over
the shortened slalom course. That was the same time as
Rocca, but the Italian edged him out on a countback. The
race was won my Norwegian Lars Myhre, with his team-mate
Tom Stiansen - currently ranked 11th on the World Cup
standings - in second.
Another seven top 30 skiers were also in the field.
Brauer will race in the slalom leg of the World Cup
Combined event in Chamonix on Saturday night, January
10.
In World Cup speed events, Jenny Owens finished in 47th
place in Veysonnaz, while Craig Branch was in 48th place
in the men's donwhill in Chamonix.
