Australian skier AJ Bear has finished in 27th place
in the World Cup super G race in Lake Louise,
Canada.
It was the first super G event for the 25-year-old
Olympic Winter Institute skier since a high speed
crash in Bormio, Italy, in January which broke his
arm and ended his 2002/03 season.
Bear negotiated the difficult Men's Olympic Downhill
course in a time of 1 minute 39.16 seconds, 2.47
seconds behind race winner, Austrian superstar
Hermann Maier.
Maier's team-mates also claimed the next three
places.
Bear had recorded his first top 30 placings last
season prior to his accident, and the Lake Louise
result indicates he is ready to resume his progress
up the world rankings.
Fellow Australian Craig Branch finished in 50th
place.
Next weekend the World Cup circuit travels to
Vail/Beaver Creek in Colorado, where Bear recorded a
career best 21st placing in super G last season.
