Under 14 Alpine athletes are again invited to apply for entry into
the 2004 Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup to be held at Whistler
Mountain, Canada from Tuesday 30 March 2004 to Sunday 04 April 2004.
This is a FIS Children's team event so each National Association is
invited to attend with a team of up to 10 athletes, with six Child 2
athletes and four Child 1 athletes, with a maximum of 6 of the same
gender. The format of the event is a Slalom and a Giant Slalom for
Child 1 athletes, boys and girls, born 1991 and 1992 and a Slalom,
Giant Slalom and a Super G for Child 2 athletes, boys and girls,
born 1989 and 1990. Entry of Australian Child 2 athletes to the
Super G will be on coach's recommendation only. Being a FIS event,
FIS rules will apply.
Entries for Australian athletes close on Monday 23 February 2004,
selections will be made and notified by Friday 27 February 2004 and
SAL will make the official entries to the event Organisers by the
deadline of Monday 08 March 2004 after feedback from the selected
athletes concerning acceptance of the Team position or otherwise.
The Selection Criterion for this event is on SAL points gained in
the 2003 Australian season, in accordance with the following
official SAL selection policy.
Individual athletes may seek to participate in international FIS
children’s races not forming part of the Australian Children’s Team
Program.
Under the FIS rules, Australia has a quota of six starts in C2 and
four starts in C1 categories, with no more than 6 of the same gender
in the 10 member team, the maximum allowed in the event. The SAL NAC
Selectors have the discretion to vary the selection between genders.
In the event that the number of athletes seeking to participate in
any such event exceeds the national quota, priority will be
determined in accordance with the 01 October SAL points list as
interpreted by the Chairman of Selectors.
