Aerial Skiers Begin On - Snow Training

Date: 29/11/02

Alisa Camplin, Lydia Ierodiaconou and Liz Gardner began the first on-snow camp for the northern hemisphere season at Fortress Mountain on November 16, following the final Water Jump camp in September October in Lake Placid & Park City, USA.

During the northern summer, all of the team made considerable improvements and look forward to transferring these skills to snow.

Aerials Head coach Todd Ossian reports that all the women have been training well in Fortress. Alisa has been training up to doubles with very good height and impressive landings and some of the best form of her career. Lydia has made major technical improvements since last year, and seems to be jumping better than she was at Mt Buller in September, with better form on the inrun and during take-off, and very consistent landings. Liz Gardner is concentrating on getting numbers up in lay tuck and lay full, and Todd reports that he is very happy with her progress.

Bree Munro missed the first on-snow camp, as she was still recovering from a neck injury sustained in a fall during the Mt Buller World Cup. She was in a collar for five weeks, but has now completely recovered and has been training with Ski & Snowboard Australia Development team members Trudy McIntosh and Laura Lindsay at the Ski & Snowboard Australia Water (SAL) Jump facility in Wandin North, outside Melbourne.

Bree will rejoin the OWI team in Fortress in December for their second on-snow camp, with ski training a major focus of her early program.

The Development team will travel with VIS/SAL Program Manager Rachel Johnson to Silver Star in Canada on December 12 for on snow training, then join the OWI team in early January for their first jumps on snow. The team is the largest the program has ever sent away, with nine young women taking the next step in their aerial development
