Alisa Camplin won her second World Cup in a row on Friday,
taking the gold medal in Lake Placid and top spot on the
aerials rankings.
Unfortunately she was unable to repeat the performance in
the second of the two New York state events, finishing in
14th place and slipping to second place on the standings
behind Nannan Xu of China.
Despite suffering the effects of a pre-event training
accident, Alisa qualified first in the opening Lake Placid
competition, then went on to win by almost six points from
Nina Li of China.
Team-mate Lydia Ierodiaconou, runner up to Alisa in the
previous event in Mont Tremblant, missed the final, placing
21st in qualifying.
But Liz Gardner continued her impressive run of form,
qualifying in ninth and finishing in 12th place.
Liz was the OWI success story of the weekend’s second event,
qualifying in third place, a career high, and finishing in
fifth place after a personal best total score of 169.01.
Lydia was one place further back in sixth place.
The fourth member of the team, Shannon Leotta, had trouble
with her landings in both events, finishing in 23rd and 22nd
place.
The team goes to Fernie for the last event before the world
championship break with Alisa in second place on the World
Cup standings with 356 points, just four behind Nannan Xu.
Lydia is third on 344 and Liz is in eighth place on 292.
