The NSWIS/SSA Halfpipe Development Team resumed Northern Hemisphere training in Colorado on Nov 20. Although there was limited terrain open at the time, there have been significant snow falls since, allowing all the resorts around the area to be close to 100% open.
With Copper Mountain opening its Halfpipe on schedule, Nov 29th, it has enabled us to get in some great training in the lead up to The Breckenridge Grand Prix which was held over Dec 13th, 14th and 15th.
The Grand Prix Series is once again proving be the highest level of competition outside of World Cup with over 100 competitors in the Men’s event alone. Many International Teams were in attendance, including Current Olympic Gold medalists, Shaun White and Hannah Teter,
Shaun White won the Men’s with an amazing display of tricks, reminding everyone he’s still the man to beat, while current Women’s Olympic Silver medalist Gretchen Bleiler won the Women’s.
The NSWIS/SSA Athletes all rode well within their qualifying heats but didn’t make the cut into the finals.
A complete rundown of results can be found on the FIS website, www.fis-ski.com.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be having light training due to the Christmas busy period.
The resorts are mostly very crowded, but we’ll be ramping it up again just after New Year in preparation for the first of the Revolution Tour Competitions late January.
I’ll write in with an update again after the Revolution Tour at Copper Mountain.
We all wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Regards,
Ben Alexander
